The first Publish and be Damned fair took place at The Crypt of St James Church, Clerkenwell on Sunday 4 July 2004. More than 30 publications from across the UK and Europe taking part in Publish and be Damned was as much a village fair as a fan-meet. In contrast to artist book fairs elsewhere, all stalls were given free of charge to enable even the most low budget publications to present their work. Publish and be Damned has since become an annual summer event, moving in 2006 from The Crypt to the Rochelle School, Shoreditch allowing for a greater number of publications to attend. Participants are selected from open submission by an advisory panel of artists, curators and magazine distributors. Further information on each year's fair can be found by clicking on the year above. |
